Elementary School Mission Statement:
The mission of Vineyard Christian School (VCS) is to prepare children for successful lives as citizens in the Kingdom of God.

We strive to accomplish our mission by working with our students and their parents to achieve excellence in academics, social skills and understanding of biblical truths while focusing on a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Philosophy of Education
The Responsibility
According to the Bible, the responsibility for education rests upon the parents (Deuteronomy 6:6-9; Ephesians 6:1-14). They are the primary teachers of their children. In areas where parents may lack necessary teaching skills, they are responsible to learn those skills or to delegate this responsibility to an education institution.

The Process
At VCS we believe that a child’s education must be thoroughly conceived and diligently implemented. We creatively utilize all available resources for maximizing individual educational opportunities. The very best resources and techniques are employed by gifted and trained teachers.

The Student
Each student is considered to be a spiritual-physical being, created in the image of God, capable of learning, knowing and obeying the truth of God’s Word and the laws of His creation. He is at the same time a social being, standing in relation to his fellow man, having moral, intellectual and emotional needs.

The Curriculum
At VCS we meet these needs by having a balanced curriculum that sets high academic standards in an environment that assures security, creativity, acceptance and love.

The curriculum is the medium through which the student is oriented to life. The curriculum includes studies from science, language arts, mathematics, history and geography, physical education, technology, the arts and the Bible. The Bible and Christian training are not only included in the course content, but furnish the orientation and philosophical framework for the study of every other subject

Admission Policy
Admission to VCS is obtained by written application and personal interview. It is our policy that a child must be five years old by September 1 to be eligible for Kindergarten in September.

Students who have significant behavioral problems, special needs or learning disabilities will not be accepted due to the inability to meet these needs within our program.

Non-Discrimination
In striving to be like Jesus and to love all people, we at Vineyard welcome and embrace cultural diversity and nationalities, and we are thankful to God for the rich heritages that are represented by each family in our school. Therefore, we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, nationality, or ethnic origin in admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs or athletic and other school administered programs.

Immunizations
All new students, grades K-6 must provide a copy of their Birth Certificate and a written immunization record of each required vaccine dose (DPT, Polio, Measles/Mumps/Rubella) showing the month, date and year received. All immunizations must be current and the completed form returned to the school office before the first day of school. If your child’s immunizations are not current, your child will not be admitted to class. This is a requirement of the California State Department of Health. A child may be exempt from this requirement if his physician recommends that he not be immunized on medical grounds or if his parents sign a request for exemption on the basis of their religious beliefs.

All kindergartners and new first graders (previously not enrolled in VCS) must present proof and results of a recent (within eighteen months) physical exam by a physician.

All kindergarten and first grade students must present evidence of a tuberculosis skin test. It must be the Mantoux type test. All other returning students are urged to have the Mantoux-style TB test and furnish the office with a copy of the results.

Curriculum Overview:

Vineyard Christian School strives for excellence in education. The apostle Paul writes in Colossians
3:17 “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” At Vineyard Christian School we are excited by the calling and the challenge to educate our students in the truth of God’s Word, His creation, and the tools needed to become effective citizens in today’s world. What you hold in your hand is an overview of Vineyard Christian School’s curriculum text adoptions with brief outlines of teaching objectives at each grade level.

Our school’s curriculum is the foundation by which we give our students an excellent education. However, curriculum is much more that the textbooks we have adopted. The resources above and beyond a publisher’s scope and sequence enhance the curriculum, make I applicable to a student’s life, and make learning come alive.

Some of the ways to extend the curriculum may include:

- Video Simulations
- Teacher Created Units Role Plays
- Literature Model Building
- Educational Games Reports (written and oral)
- Projects Group Discussion
- Creative Writing Field Trips

Our curriculum focuses not only on the skills needed to “get the right answers” but the thinking and communicating skills needed to solve problems, create solutions, and accurately communicate ideas.

At Vineyard Christian School, we teach excellence!
  1. Excellence in our relationship with God through his Son, Jesus Christ, and in learning God’s Word.
  2. Excellence in acquiring skills for reading, writing, arithmetic, science, art, and understanding history and the Bible.
  3. Excellence in preparing our students for a technological future.
  4. Excellence in pursuing personal discipline in accountability and physical fitness.

It is our prayer at Vineyard Christian School that our curriculum is centered on God’s purposes and desires in education our students. The ongoing process of building curriculum to meet the needs of our students is a task we take pleasure in pursuing. As you read through our grade level curriculum selections and the brief overviews of what is taught at each grade level, we hope our dedication to excellence in the Christian education of our students is evident.
